Luis Valero

I like programming. I am currently studying Data Science & AI at Leiden University, where I also work as a teaching assistant for the courses "Fundamentals of programming",
"Data Structures and Algorithms" and "Probability Theory for Computer Scientists". I enjoy programming, recreational mathematics, and running various hacky ML expirements.
I was born in Barcelona, Spain, and completed my high school education in Finland. I speak English, Spanish, & Catalan fluently, and can handle conversations in Finnish, French, and Dutch.

I am currently working as a teaching assistant for the courses "Data Structures and Algorithms", "Probability Theory for Computer Scientists", and "Fundamentals of Programming" at Leiden University.

I worked as a research assistant doing data preparation & analysis under Dr. M.L. Vives Moya
I ran various sentiment analysis jobs for expirements involving LLMs & induced psychopathologies.

Work 3

UN University - WIDER Internship

2022

While in high school I worked as an intern at the United Nations University WIDER as part of a high school internship program. While there I developed an automated process to streamline the data analysis pipeline for a PhD Thesis. I was able to reduce the expected workload of a week into a 3 hour program which analyzed & cleaned the Global Competitiveness Index.

Cell Segmentation Toolkit

A voice controlled cell segmentation toolkit built as part of the Artificial Intelligence & Robotics challenge at Leiden University.

Project 2

OtaOS

GitHub

A fully functional operating system that bootloads with GRUB, and comes with keyboard & VGA drivers for a text-based interface & supports multi-task scheduling. It can also detect PCI devices with a custom PCI prober, similiar to the lspci command on Linux.

START Compiler

An open source x86 compiler for the educational language START, originally developed by Leiden University and used by Leiden University in the Introduction to Programming course. (Just to be clear, this is not the version they use)

About Me

Besides from spending a lot of time programming, I have always enjoyed self-studying mathematics. I also play in a music band on the weekends, where I play the piano and jazz trumpet. I also enjoy playing football on the weekends with my friends, which is an activity I have been doing all my life.
A fun fact about me is that I used to be a competitive speedcuber when I was younger, and at my peak I averaged ~9.5 seconds on the 3x3 rubiks cube.
